REPLACE MISSING TEETH

Dental implants in NYC are designed to take the place of a tooth that’s missing or been removed. Missing teeth stop you from looking your best, especially when they’re in the front of your mouth. Unlike dentures, dental implants are permanently anchored in the jawbone. To replace missing teeth, we can refer you to one of our dental implant specialists that offer dental implants in NYC.

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants use a titanium post (fixture), which acts as an artificial root of the teeth and provides a stable foundation for a dental crown. Because dental implants stimulate the jawbone, there is no concern for jawbone loss or resorption, which can occur with dentures or when a missing tooth has not been replaced. Dental implants also create a better chewing surface when you’ve lost critical teeth and can stabilize your jaw after you’ve had teeth extracted.

In NYC, dental implants can also be used in a complete smile makeover or full mouth reconstruction. Dental implants are a versatile procedure that can replace the need for dental bridges and dentures. While dental bridges and dentures are an important tool, they can lead to uncomfortable side effects. Many patients feel embarrassed or self-conscious if their dental bridge comes out or if their dentures slip or become dislodged when talking, chewing, or smiling. Additionally, dental bridges and dentures do not stimulate the jawbone, which, in time, can lead to jawbone loss. Dental bridges and dentures can be attached directly onto dental implants for a more secure fit and less potential for them moving around.

WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS IN NYC?

Ideal dental implant candidates are those looking to replace missing teeth and those who have proper jawbone density to support dental implants. If patients do not have proper jawbone density, a dental bone graft may be suggested to improve the overall bone density of the jaw. Following a dental bone graft, the majority of patients will have proper jawbone density and can receive dental implants. Dental implant surgery is ideal for patients who are looking to replace dental bridges and dentures with a more permanent solution to missing teeth.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY DENTAL IMPLANT SURGERY?

Prior to dental implant surgery, your surgeon and dentist will perform an evaluation to assess your specific needs. During this evaluation, they will also determine if you may benefit from a dental bone graft to increase jawbone density before receiving dental implants. Your dental implant surgeon can help you decide if dental implants, full mouth dental implants, or denture implants are right for you.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY DENTAL IMPLANT SURGERY?

Dental implant surgery is typically performed in 2 separate procedures. The first procedure involves the placement of the titanium post (fixture). After this dental implant post has been placed, stitches will be applied to the surgical site to ensure proper healing. These stitches are removed once the surgical site has fully healed. Immediately following dental implant surgery, patients may experience some minor pain, discomfort, and tenderness in the jaw. An antiseptic mouthwash may be prescribed to ensure proper healing and that the surgical site stays clean.

Following the placement of a dental implant post, patients will undergo a period of osseointegration. During this process, the titanium post of the dental implant fuses and adheres with the jawbone. This process typically takes 3-6 months. After osseointegration, a second dental implant procedure will be scheduled and then your permanent dental crown will be fabricated by Dr. John Koutsoyiannis. A dental implant specialist will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions and answer any questions you may have about dental implants in NYC.
